CHURCH HISTORY

On February 6, 1994, a group that had broken away from Westside Baptist Church met to discuss the organization of a new Baptist Church in the Hemet Valley.  It was arranged that someone from Southwest Baptist Conference would meet with them soon.

February 13, 1994 was the first Sunday of worship for this group at Club Evergreen in the recreation center of Sierra Dawn North.  Reverend Severin Bernas provided the message on Spiritual strength to 86 committed believers.

Sunday service attendance at Club evergreen ranged between 79 and 98.  Slowly home groups and a prayer chain were organized and the congregation voted on Inland Valley Baptist Fellowship as their new name.  By-laws and a constitution were adopted on May 29, 1994 followed by election of officers and installation.

On August 1, 1995, Don Peterson was called to be Senior Pastor along with his wife Betty.  A building fund was started and in 1999 IVBF moved into a new home at its present site on Johnston Ave.  February 6, 2006 we were proud to burn the mortgage, paid in full after seven years.  Pastor Don Peterson served lovingly until his retirement in December 31, 2010.  Chris Engel along with his wife Tami had been serving as Youth Pastor since 2007 and Chris was invited and voted in to become our new Senior Pastor.  Under his leadership we made plans for a second more contemporary service to attract a younger group, and January 20, 2012 Wellspring was launched.

Several youth pastors followed after Chris and subsequently resigned, to be replaced now by Ben Replogle as interim youth pastor.  Plans began anew to start a new building fund to have a separate building for classrooms and a playground.  By June 2013 two new classrooms and playground were in use and debt free. A new solar electric system was added and operational in Jan 1st 2015 with a significant reduction in our Southern California Edison bill.

Pastor Chris tendered his resignation late in 2015 to pursue a new career in school psychology with the Temecula Unified School District and our search for a new interim and lead pastor began.  Pastor Chris and Ben Replogle will fill in as pastor until search is completed.

Currently we have a membership of 100, 6 of whom are charter members and around a total Sunday attendance of 185 for both services. Two adult Sunday school classes and a combined children’s Sunday school class.

We support 8 missionary families serving in Spain, Mexico, Philippines, Hemet, Ethiopia and Brazil.

Activities of the church are October fall festival for Halloween outdoors, Chili cook off and Christmas in October to fund missionary Christmas giving, summer picnic in the park, California Baptist Men’s Choral concert, and annual business meetings.

We have an active Deacon Board, Deaconess Committee, Prayer Chain, Adult Sunday school, men’s ministry with home groups, Women’s Bible Study, Singles ministry, Youth ministry, choir, praise team and Wednesday Bible Study.
